Location of the municipality of Jagel in the Schleswig-Flensburg district | ||
Jagel ( Danish also: Hjagel ) is a municipality near Schleswig in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . Klosterkrug ( Klosterkro ), Heidberg and Mielberg ( Milbjerg ) belong to the municipality.
history
Jagel lies on an extensive sand area . Peat was extracted in the surrounding moors . The place is located near the Kograben (Danish Kovirke ) of the Danish border wall Danewerk .
Bronze Age traces can be found in the northwestern Tveebargen .
The place was first mentioned in 1180 in the chronicle of Helmold von Bosau as Thievela . In 1323, on the occasion of a donation to the St. Johannis monastery outside Schleswig, the name form Dyauele , later Dyagel and 1575/76 Jagelle . According to one interpretation, the place name is made up of the Old Saxon thiof for thief and - lôh for forest ( e.g. thief woods ). According to another interpretation, the name comes from Old Norse and is made up of Þy for maid and -vaðill for a ford ( e.g. ford of the maid ). In both interpretations, the name Jagel is an example of how far a place name can deviate from its appellative basis through phonetic changes in the lexical elements.
politics
Community representation
Of the eleven seats in the municipal council, the ABJ community of voters has six seats since the 2013 local elections and the KWJ community of voters five.
coat of arms
Blazon : "In green, a rooted, fruit-bearing silver double oak , both branches of which enclose a golden eagle, the left wing with the feathers pointing upwards."
The double oak should refer to the place name. The eagle with the alternately turned wings comes from the coat of arms of the medieval noble family von Alversdorp. It is attested as a seal on a deed of donation from 1323.
traffic
The B 77 runs through Jagel , which leads to the Schleswig / Jagel motorway junction on the A 7 , which runs not far from Jagel. On the section between the junction (6a) Jagel / Freesendorf and Owschlag there was a makeshift motorway airport , which could be made operational within a short time in the event of a defense .
economy
Due to the central location and the Schleswig Air Base located in the municipality, many commercial and service companies have settled in Jagel.
In Jagel there is a water ski facility in an old gravel pit , where championships are also held.
