Location of the municipality Stadtkyll in the Vulkaneifel district
Stadtkyll [ ʃtatˈkɪl ] is a municipality in the Vulkaneifel district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Gerolstein community . Stadtkyll is a state-approved climatic health resort and designated as a basic center according to state planning .
geography
Stadtkyll is located in the Vulkaneifel on the Kyll .
Stadtkyll consists of the districts of Niederkyll, Schönfeld and Stadtkyll.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document as a Cologne church property in the middle of the 13th century . In the following period (around 1292) Stadtkyll quickly gained in importance with its wall ring and castle. In 1310 Stadtkyll was granted town charter and thus also the right to use a coat of arms that largely corresponds to today's.
Since the stones of the city wall were always used during the reconstruction after fires and wars, the old city wall disappeared completely. Today the approximate course of the fortification can only be seen from the rows of houses in Burgbergstrasse . At the end of January 1945, after the Ardennes offensive in World War II , Stadtkyll was practically 75% destroyed.
As part of the Rhineland-Palatinate functional and territorial reform , Stadtkyll was reclassified together with 14 other communities on November 7, 1970 from the district of Prüm , which was dissolved at the same time, to the district of Daun (since 2007 district Vulkaneifel).
On January 1, 1971, the previously independent community of Schönfeld was incorporated .
A DECCA transmitter existed on Stadtkyller Heide from 1952 to 1992 .

coat of arms
Blazon : "Divided by gold and red by lowered, oblique left, blue wavy bars and a silver wavy bar, the wavy bar is covered with seven four-ended gold stars ."
Foundation of the coat of arms: The colors gold and red indicate the Counts of Manderscheid , who took over the county of Gerolstein and with it Stadtkyll in 1469 . In 1310 Stadtkyll received city rights and thus the right to use a coat of arms. The historical city coat of arms corresponds to the current coat of arms. Only one existing bar was changed to a wavy bar in 1974 and delimited by a newly added wavy bar to symbolize that the town and castle Stadtkyll are shaped by the river Kyll. |
