The Premier League 1997/98 was the sixth season of the Premier League , which was hosted by the FA , and at the same time the 99th first division season in English football. It started on August 9, 1997 and ended on May 10, 1998.
Arsenal FC became English champions for the first time since 1991 and also won the FA Cup . All three newcomers, Crystal Palace , Barnsley FC and the Bolton Wanderers , had to relegate straight back to the First Division . The top scorer was Dion Dublin from Coventry City , Michael Owen from Liverpool FC and Chris Sutton from Blackburn Rovers with 18 goals each .
