history

Map from 1798, drawn by J. Eimann

The place was first mentioned in 1128 in a document of the Archbishop of Mainz Adalbert I as Royde ; it refers to the time of Archbishop Willigis (from 975). In this, the village is obliged to partially maintain the St. Marien chapel on the Disibodenberg .

In 1418 Duke Stephan von Zweibrücken, son of Emperor Ruprecht von der Pfalz , and Count Friedrich von Montfort fought over the village. During the so-called "Duchrother War" there were deaths and injuries on both sides as well as robbery and fire in the village.

The town hall was built in the 16th century and is now one of the oldest in Rhineland-Palatinate.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, the difficult economic times meant that many emigrated to Russia, America or Southeastern Europe ( Batschka , Banat ). Johann Eimann from Duchroth is a settlement pioneer who established the history of the Batschka settlement.

In the second half of the 18th century, Duchroth was forced by his sovereign Christian IV to take part in the lottery to build the Zweibrücken ducal suburb. Indeed, the village's lottery ticket won. The prize, a building on Herzogsplatz, was sold immediately and the proceeds were used to celebrate for a week.

The village as it was presented in 1798 has been handed down from a sketch made by Eimann from memory. The plan shows the largely existing village structure, surrounded by a circular path and a moat.

Through the Congress of Vienna , Duchroth, which had previously been in the Palatinate, became part of Bavaria , where it remained until 1945 and belonged to the Rhine District , known as Rheinpfalz from 1838 . In 1848 many Duchrother were on the side of the national freedom movement, which is why a company of Bavarian hunters was quartered in the village for a long time as a punishment. August Geib from Duchrother was a founding member of the SPD and its first treasurer.

Duchroth was united with the neighboring town of Oberhausen until January 1, 1965 to form the local community of Duchroth-Oberhausen .

During the territorial reform in 1969, the local community of Duchrodt was reclassified from the Rockenhausen district to the Bad Kreuznach district. Ecclesiastically, Duchroth still belongs to the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate and the Diocese of Speyer .
