Francis Carr (politician)

Francis Carr (born December 6, 1751 in Newbury , Essex County , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  October 6, 1821 in Bangor , Maine ) was an American politician . In 1812 and 1813 he represented the state of Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Francis Carr attended public schools in his homeland and then went into commerce. At the same time he embarked on a political career. Between 1791 and 1808 he was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives on several occasions . From 1809 to 1811 he was a member of the State Senate . He was a member of the Democratic Republican Party .

After the resignation of MP Barzillai Gannett , Carr was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the 17th seat of Massachusetts , where he took up his new mandate on April 6, 1812. Since he was not confirmed in the regular congressional elections of 1812 , he could only end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1813 . This time was marked by the events of the British-American War .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Francis Carr returned to trading. He died in Bangor on October 6, 1821. His son James (1777-1818) was also a member of Congress.
