George Ford

George Ford (born January 11, 1846 in South Bend , Indiana , †  August 30, 1917 there ) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1887 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

George Ford attended the public schools in his home country and also worked as a cooper. After a subsequent law degree at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and his 1869 admission to the bar, he began to work in his hometown of South Bend in this profession. In 1873 and between 1875 and 1884 he served as the district attorney in St. Joseph County .

Politically, Ford was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1884 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th  constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded Benjamin F. Shively on March 4, 1885 . Since he refused to run again in 1886, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1887 . After leaving the US House of Representatives, Ford headed the legal department of a large company for some time. He then practiced again as a lawyer in South Bend. In 1914 he was elected a Superior Court Justice in St. Joseph County. He died in South Bend on August 30, 1917.
