The Daily I was built from 1978 to 1990. The model was originally developed from 1973 by Fiat , Alfa Romeo and Officine Meccaniche as the Fiat S series and was ultimately presented as Fiat Daily. Until the uniform appearance of Iveco , the model was still offered by the Iveco forming companies, except as Fiat Daily also as OM Grinta in Italy, Saurer Grinta in Switzerland and Unic Daily in France; in Germany, the Daily was also sold under the Fiat brand via the Magirus-Deutz service network . Until 1980, the original brand emblem was in the radiator grille and the IVECO logo was on the right above the bumper. Between 1980 and 1983, the Iveco emblem was everywhere in the radiator grille and the local brand names took the other place (see picture above). This should slowly get customers used to the new Iveco brand. From 1990 the local names were dropped, except for the Alfa Romeo AR8, which was always offered as Alfa Romeo.

The Daily is a short hood with a ladder frame, individually suspended front wheels and rear-wheel drive. This construction has since been retained in all new models. The chassis and vans were manufactured by OM in Brescia and Suzzara , the multi-cabs and buses rolled off the assembly line at Alfa Romeo in Pomigliano . At the beginning the Daily had a swirl chamber diesel engine from SOFIM with 2445 cm³ displacement, 53 kW (72 PS, the SOFIM 8140 engine ) or a gasoline engine with 1971 cm³, 56 kW (76 PS) and was available with a total weight of up to 4 tons. In 1985, a SOFIM diesel engine with 2445 cm³ displacement, direct injection and turbocharger , which developed 68 kW (92 hp). This model was from now on offered as Turbo Daily . In 1986 a SOFIM swirl chamber diesel engine with 2499 cm³, 55 kW (75 PS) replaced the previous one and the total weight increased to five tons. All-wheel drive was available as an option from 1987, and a longer wheelbase enabled more cargo volume in the panel van.

Production in Serbia

The Iveco Daily I is still manufactured under license in Serbia as Zastava Rival .

Daily II (1990-1999)

2.5–2.8 liters
(55–88 kW)

The Daily II started in 1990 with a revised cabin, improvements to the 8140 engine with a displacement of 2.5 liters at the time and all-wheel drive as an option. It was only available under the name Iveco Daily and was built by OM in Brescia and Suzarra. The turbodiesel engine with direct injection now had 76 kW (103 hp), while the swirl chamber engine continued to produce 55 kW (75 hp). The total weight was now six tons. The panel van was also available with a loading volume of 17 m³ and a headroom of 2.10 m. From 1992 a turbo diesel engine with 85 kW (116 hp) and intercooler was available. A third production plant was built in Valladolid , Spain . In 1994 a 2.5-liter turbo version with computer-controlled injection and 80 kW (109 hp) came, and power steering was now standard.

Facelift 1996

The Daily was revised in 1996, and it looked only slightly different from the previous model. A new dashboard moved in, rear disc brakes were now standard and an anti-lock braking system was available as an option. The 8140 engine now had a displacement of 2.8 liters and achieved the Euro 2 emission class . The trailer load was now up to 3500 kg. As a swirl chamber version it now developed 60 kW (82 PS) and as a direct injection 75 kW (102 PS) or 90 kW (122 PS).

Engine 8140

The 8140 engine was used in various variants, partly in the Sevel Süd transporter (Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Jumper) and the Renault Master and Trafic and their variants (Opel and Nissan transporters). The engine had a toothed belt to drive the camshaft and injection pump. Only the four-wheel-drive version of the Daily had a timing chain.

transmission

All-wheel-drive variants were available in the model series up to and including 1989 and from 1990 (facelift 1996). A transfer case with the gear stages 2N (rear-wheel drive), 4N (all-wheel drive without reduction), F (idle) and 4R (all-wheel with reduction ratio 1: 2.74) was connected behind the normal 5-speed gearbox. The gradeability of the vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of 4050 kg was given as 100% with the gear reduction engaged.

China production

Daily China

The second generation Daily continues to be produced in Nanjing . The manufacturer Nanjing Vehicle has been building the model here since 1997 in a joint venture with the Nanjing Automobile Group . In 2004, a revised version was introduced as a power daily parallel to the old model as a minibus. In the commercial model versions, the Turbo Daily was given the additional designation Commercial Vehicle when it was launched in 1997. The Power Daily has been offered as a Euro Truck since 2007.

Motorization

Three engines were available, each with the 8140 engine with 2.8 liter displacement. The naturally aspirated engine with VE injection pump with almost 66 kW (90 PS) was very rarely sold. The 78 kW (106 PS) engine also has a VE injection pump and a turbocharger with charge air cooling. The model with the type designation ... 13 with 92 kW (125 PS) was equipped with the then new common rail injection. Later the model ... 11 was also equipped with CR injection. The top engine of the… 15 followed shortly afterwards with 107 kW (145 PS), also with the 8140 engine, but with adjustable guide vanes in the turbocharging turbine.

In 2003 the HPI engine F1A with 2.3 liter displacement and the second generation of common rail injection came out, each as a model with the type designation ... 10 with 70 kW (95 PS) or type ... 12 with 85 kW (116 PS) ) on the market. Thus, together with the F1A, only the models with the 8140 engine… 13 and… 15 were available. At the beginning of 2004, the new 3-liter F1C engine started with the same basic structure as the F1A, but with a chain-driven camshaft. The engine was available in vehicles… 14 with 100 kW (136 hp) and… 17 with 122 kW (166 hp). So the outdated original 8140 engine was replaced. The 8140 was still available in the natural gas powered Daily.

transmission

The vehicles were each equipped with a five-speed gearbox up to 88 kW and with a six-speed gearbox from 88 kW. With the new engines, the AGile was also available, which is electronically shifted.

Production in China

The 3rd generation is produced as a minibus for a maximum of 19 passengers in a revised version since 2007 as Iveco Power Daily . The model has also been exported to Ukraine since 2010 . The engines used are the SOFIM 2.8-liter turbodiesel with 74 kW (101 PS), 85 kW (116 PS) and 93 kW (126 PS) with a 5-speed manual transmission.
