Joseph Callinet (1795-1857)
Life
Joseph Callinet was the most important organ builder in the Callinet family. He learned his trade from his father and worked with his brother Claude-Ignace from 1837 to 1843. In 1844 the young Aristide Cavaillé-Coll paid him a visit when he was building a new organ in the village of Lutter , a village with a hundred souls . Cavaillé-Coll was so amazed at an organ with almost twenty registers in a tiny village that he said his famous sentence about Alsace: Il paraît que c'est le pays des orgues. C'est l'inverse de la France; il ya plus d'orgues que de pianos . Due to a serious illness Callinet could no longer work from 1852. He died in Rouffach in 1857.
In musical terms, the German musician Martin Vogt (1781–1854) was an influential advisor to Joseph Callinet. In addition to his work as an organist in the Martinsmünster in Colmar , Vogt was at that time the most published composer of church music in Alsace and northern Switzerland .

Louis Callinet (1786-1845)
Life
Louis Callinet learned the trade of organ building from his uncle François in Rouffach. After his death he went to Paris , where he worked with the 83-year-old Jean Antoine Somer (1738-1830) from 1821 and took over his clientele after Somer's death. Due to financial difficulties, he sold his company to the civil engineer André-Marie Daublaine in 1839 and then traded under the name Daublaine-Callinet . In 1841 Charles Spackman Barker joined the company as a foreman. After Callinet had destroyed parts of the pipework of the organ at St-Sulpice in Paris, which was currently under renovation, in a fit of rage on April 11, 1843 , he left the company and worked for Aristide Cavaillé-Coll . He died in 1845 at the age of 59.
The Daublaine-Callinet company went bankrupt after Barker accidentally set the organ in St-Eustache in Paris on fire with a candle and was initially taken over by Ducroquet in 1845 . In 1855 it was bought by Joseph Merklin and his brother-in-law Friedrich Schütze .

↑ It seems this is the land of organs. It's the opposite of France: there are more organs than pianos here.
