The League 1 2019/20 is the 82nd season of the highest Romanian football league . It started on July 12, 2019.

The defending champion is CFR Cluj . Newcomers from Liga II 2018/19 are FC Academica Clinceni and FC Chindia Târgoviște , both of which are competing in Liga 1 for the first time.

mode

The season is carried out with 14 teams. First there is a preliminary round with a home and away leg, then the teams in places 1 to 6 play the champions, while the eight teams in places 7 to 16 play in the relegation round. Half of the points from the preliminary round are taken over. Subject to the withdrawal of licenses by other teams, the last two teams will be relegated directly, the third from bottom must be relegated to the third in League II.
