About this picture

Besenthal is a municipality in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein .

geography

The community consists of Besenthal and the districts Sarnekow and Gudower Mühle. The entire area (Hellbachtal) is under landscape and nature protection. There was never a consolidation of areas, so that a typical bent landscape has been preserved to this day.

history

The district of Sarnekow was first mentioned in 1194 in Isfried's partition contract and is listed together with Besenthal in the Ratzeburg tithe register from 1230. Besenthal means Binsental. The two villages are on the oldest salt road from Lüneburg to Lübeck . Since 1948 the community belonged to the Gudow Office, which in 1971 was combined with the Sterley Office to Gudow-Sterley Office . After its dissolution, the municipality joined the Büchen office in 2007 .
