Season B
Season course
The relegated league 1. FC Union Berlin won the title in season B. BSG KWO Berlin , SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde , BSG Chemie PCK Schwedt and BSG Stahl Brandenburg were the first pursuers of the Iron, but in the long run they lacked stamina, to be able to seriously intervene in the fight for the relay victory. With the BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt , newcomer BSG Bergmann-Borsig Berlin and the BSG Stahl Hennigsdorf , teams followed that always moved in safe waters. This was also expected from BSG Motor Hennigsdorf , which, however, was in danger of relegation due to a miserable spring round. The Hennigsdorfer won 3 points from six games and were tied with BSG semiconductor plant Frankfurt / O before matchday 21 . Frankfurt got 8 points in the same period and was able to leave the relegation places with a victory in a direct duel. Hennigsdorf won his home game 2-0 and just pulled his head out of the loop. The other relegated companies were BSG Motor Eberswalde and BSG Motor Süd Brandenburg . Both found themselves on the relegation places early on and Brandenburg in particular proved to be unsuitable for the league.

Season C
Season course
The battle for the relay win was an exciting affair. During the winter break, the first (Schkopau) separated from the sixth (Thale) just 3 points. The team of BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau defended their place at the top of the table to the end, which they owed above all to their good away record (15: 7 points). Relegated league club BSG Chemie Leipzig , started as a favorite, was exposed to too many fluctuations with the new formation. Especially their weakness at home (14: 8 points) was their undoing in the fight for the relay victory. In the end they only got 3rd place behind the strong team from BSG Stahl Blankenburg .
With the BSG Chemie Wolfen , the newcomers BSG MK Sangerhausen and BSG Chemie Schönebeck , three teams quickly lost connection to the saving places to stay in the league.

Season D
Season course
The BSG Energie Cottbus lived up to its role as favorite and won sovereign the season victory. With the exception of the first matchday, they were always at the top of the table and only left both points at BSG Motor Werdau . The midfield consisted of TSG Gröditz , BSG Motor Werdau and BSG activist Black Pump . The other teams fought more or less to stay up until the last day of the match. With only 4 points after the winter break, the newcomer TSG Lübbenau was the first to book the ticket for the district league . In the end, the BSG activist Espenhain and the ASG Vorwärts Plauen had to go the same way . On the last day of the match, BSG Motor “F.-H.” Karl-Marx-Stadt had to win against ASG Vorwärts Kamenz in order to keep the class safely. Plauen, on the other hand, still had the chance in a direct duel with FSV Lokomotive Dresden to leave them behind. But for that a victory by four goals was necessary. Karl-Marx-Stadt won 3-1 and was just as able to celebrate relegation as the Dresdeners despite a 2-0 defeat against Plauen.

Season E
Season course
This time BSG Motor Suhl had the happier end in the battle for the relay victory. They relegated last year's champions BSG Wismut Gera and BSG Motor Nordhausen to their places. Gera and Nordhausen failed too often after the winter break and so Suhl was able to overtake both with a great series of 13: 3 points (without defeat). The BSG Motor Weimar flirted after three second places at last season with the winner, but were missing at the end of those six points that we lost at the green table.
In the fight against relegation there were all the remaining teams except for the first three in the table. For the newcomer from the Suhl district of BSG Motor Steinach , the league was one size too big, like the BSG WK Schmalkalden in the previous year . The other two relegated teams were only determined on the last match day. The BSG progress Weida escaped with a draw against the BSG Chemie IW Ilmenau and the BSG Motor Rudisleben with a victory against the BSG farming Bad Langensalza . For Bad Langensalza, the defeat meant relegation to the district league . BSG Motor Hermsdorf had to go the same way , which even a win against Steinach could no longer help.

In all three games the player Jürgen Albrecht took part without authorization. The main reason for this was a mistake between ASG Vorwärts Mühlhausen , where he played during his honorary service in the NVA , and BSG Motor Weimar.

Promotion lap
Season course
The BSG Energie Cottbus was the most constant team in the promotion round (home / away balance) and deservedly rose to the GDR top division . The surprise team of the league relay C BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau came closest to the Cottbus team and rose almost sensationally to the upper house. The 1. FC Union Berlin , emerged as a big favorite in the promotion round failed at the end of their poor away record (1: 7 points.). On the 8th matchday they missed the last chance for an immediate return to the league, with a 2-0 defeat at Schkopau. The performances at BSG Schiffahrt / Hafen Rostock were very unsteady, but on the last day of the match they had the chance to move up to the league with a win in Schkopau. After a 4-2 defeat despite two lead times, the Rostock team ended up in 4th place. The BSG Motor Suhl team didn't really get going and quickly lost touch with the promotion places.
