The eighth season of the German singing talent show Deutschland sucht den Superstar was broadcast from January 8 to May 7, 2011 on the RTL television program. The jury consisted of Dieter Bohlen , Fernanda Brandão and Patrick Nuo .
The castings and the recall of the best 35 candidates in the Maldives took place in summer and autumn 2010 and were broadcast in January and February 2011. The top 15 candidates appeared on the first live show on February 19, 2011. As in the previous year, seven motto show candidates were selected by televoting and three by the jury.
The jury again decided on places eight to ten in the audience vote, so that the ten applicants with the most audience votes came to the motto shows. In the course of the renovation of the rear of the stage, the live band led by Lillo Scrimali was dispensed with for the first time . Pietro Lombardi won against Sarah Engels in the final .

Motto shows and results
For the eighth season, the studio design of the theme shows, which has been in use since the fifth season, has been fundamentally changed. Instead of the many different LED light elements that were in the background of the stage, this was completely replaced by a continuous surface of video walls.
Since then, in addition to the large video wall that was already in place, which is used as a central entrance for the artists and can be divided in the middle, two other video walls of the same size have been installed on both sides.
