The 2004/05 Elitserien season was the 30th season of the Swedish Elitserien . The preliminary round was played from September 20, 2004 to March 1, 2005, the play-offs began on March 4 and ended with the final game on April 11. Swedish champion 2004/05 Frölunda HC , in the Kvalserien , a relegation round between the top four teams of the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan and the two last placed the Elitserien who finished Brynäs IF and Leksands IF the first two places and thus played in the next season in the highest league. The last place in the Elitserien 2004/05, Malmö Redhawks , however, rose to the Allsvenskan.
Due to the lockout in the National Hockey League , many legionnaires from the NHL played in the Elitserien, which further enhanced the quality of the league.
Regular season
mode
The twelve teams of the Elitserien initially played against each other in 50 season games, the first eight teams of the preliminary round competed against each other in the play-offs, the season was over for the teams in places 9 and 10, the two last-placed teams had to compete in the Kvalserien .
A win in regular time earned a team three points. In the event of a tie after regular time, extra time was played in which the winner received two points and the loser received one point. In the event of a tie after extra time, each team received one point. There were no points for a loss in regular time.
groups
The clubs were divided into three regional groups during the preliminary round, with the teams from the respective “derby groups” playing more games against each other than against teams from the other groups.
