↑ 2. Bundesliga 1997/98 |
The 1997/98 season of the Regionalliga was the fourth season of the Regionalliga as the third highest division in German football. It was played in four regional seasons of 18 teams each.
The champions of the seasons West / Southwest and South rose directly to the 2nd Bundesliga . The champions of the North and Northeast seasons first played a third climber in a relegation . Then the losing team played another round of promotion with the vice-champions of the seasons West / Southwest and South to determine the fourth climber.
mode
As in the previous seasons, the games were played in the North, Northeast , West / Southwest and South seasons . 18 teams played in each season. As in the previous season, the winners of the north and north-east seasons had to play two play-offs for promotion, while the winners of the west / south-west and south seasons rose directly. The fourth promotion place was, unlike in the previous season, between the loser of the North-Northeast playoffs and the runner-up in the South and West / Southwest relays within the German Amateur Championship .
North
Hannover 96 won the season for the second time in a row in the group north and then prevailed in the promotion games against Tennis Borussia Berlin . The 1. SC Norderstedt escaped relegation only through the voluntary withdrawal of VfL 93 Hamburg .
