Justyna Święty-Ersetic (pronounced juˈstɨna ˈɕfjɛntɨ ; * December 3, 1992 in Racibórz as Justyna Święty ) is a Polish athlete who specializes in the 400-meter run . She achieved her greatest successes with the Polish 4 x 400 meter relay , where she is often used as the final runner.

Athletic career

Justyna Święty gained her first international experience at the 2009 Youth World Championships in Bressanone , where she finished sixth with the Polish sprint relay (1000 meters). At the 2010 Junior World Championships in Moncton , Canada , where the 4 x 400 meter relay was eighth, it was only used in the run-up. Her greatest success in the junior sector was winning the silver medal at the 2011 European Junior Championships in Tallinn , which she won together with Patrycja Wyciszkiewicz , Małgorzata Hołub and Magdalena Gorzkowska .

In 2012, Święty with Agata Bednarek , Magdalena Gorzkowska and Anna Jesień reached eighth place with the relay at the European Championships in Helsinki and was eliminated from the individual competition in the first round. Shortly afterwards she took part in the Olympic Games in London , where Iga Baumgart , Justyna Święty, Anna Jesień and Patrycja Wyciszkiewicz did not reach the final . In 2013, Święty won the bronze medal in the 400-meter run at the U23 European Championships in Tampere in a personal best of 52.22 s. The Polish relay was even more successful. Magdalena Gorzkowska, Małgorzata Hołub, Agnieszka Karczmarczyk and Justyna Święty were U23 European champions ahead of Romania and France. At the World Championships for active athletes in Moscow in the same year , the relay did not make it to the finals.

The year 2014 began with the World Indoor Championships in Święty's homeland in Sopot . Here she reached the final with a personal best of 52.13 seconds in which she was fourth. With the season she came in fifth place with Ewelina Ptak , Małgorzata Hołub and Patrycja Wyciszkiewicz. She then took part with the season in the World Relays in the Bahamas , in which they were also fifth. The Polish women (Małgorzata Hołub, Patrycja Wyciszkiewicz, Joanna Linkiewicz , Justyna Święty) also finished fifth at the 2014 European Championships in Zurich and reached the semi-finals in the individual competition. In 2015 the relay team with the line-up Joanna Linkiewicz, Małgorzata Hołub, Monika Szczęsna and Justyna Święty won the bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships in Prague . In addition, she reached the semi-finals over 400 meters. Then they finished fifth again at the World Relays . In the summer, the same formation won gold at the Summer Universiade in Gwangju and in the individual competition they finished sixth. At the World Championships in Beijing , however, the Polish women did not reach the final .

The year 2016 began more successfully. At the World Indoor Championships in Portland , Ewelina Ptak, Małgorzata Hołub, Magdalena Gorzkowska and Justyna Święty were runner-up behind the Americans. In the individual, Święty reached fifth place. In May 2016 she improved her best outdoor performance to 51.96 s and qualified for the European Championships in Amsterdam , where she finished sixth over 400 meters and failed to win a medal with the Polish relay as fourth. This was followed by participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , in which she reached the semi-finals over 400 meters. With the season she reached the finals and finished there in seventh place. At the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade in 2017 , Święty won the bronze medal over 400 meters, as well as the gold medal with the Polish relay. The Polish team won the silver medal for the first time at the World Relays . She also qualified for the World Championships in London and was eliminated there in the individual competition with 53.62 s in the preliminary round . With the Polish relay she won the bronze medal behind the relays from the USA and the United Kingdom . Two weeks later she won the gold medal again with the Polish team at the World Student Games in Taipei .

In 2018 she took part in the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , where she finished fourth in the individual competition and won the silver medal behind the US team with the Polish relay. At the European Championships in Berlin at the beginning of August, Święty-Ersetic won the final over 400 meters with a new best performance of 50.41 seconds ahead of the Greek Maria Belimbasaki and the Dutch Lisanne de Witte , who both set a new national record. On the same day she also won the gold medal in the Polish 4 x 400 meter relay as the final runner in the line-up of Hołub-Kovalik, Baumgart-Witan, Wyciszkiewicz and Święty-Ersetic in 3: 26.59 min, ahead of France and the United States Kingdom. In the following year she defended the title at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow with the Polish relay in 3: 28.77 minutes and finished sixth in the individual competition in 52.64 seconds. In May she won the World Relays in Yokohama in 3: 27.49 minutes and was used in the mixed relay in the lead-up. In October, she arrived at the world championships in Doha until the final and finished there in 50.95 s seventh. In addition, she won the silver medal behind the US relay in 3: 21.89 minutes. It also started in the mixed relay, which was held for the first time, and finished fifth there with 3: 12.33 minutes in the final. Then she won the bronze medal behind the Bahraini Salwa Eid Naser and Polina Miller from Russia at the Military World Games in Wuhan in 52.19 s . With the relay she won in a new record time of 3: 27.85 min.

Święty was the first Polish champion in 2012 with her club in the 4 x 400 meter relay. In 2013 and 2016 she became champion over 400 meters. In addition, she won the 400 meter championship every year between 2014 and 2018 in the hall, and in 2015 she also won the 4 x 200 meter relay. In September 2017 she married the Polish wrestler Dawid Ersetic and has since started under the double name Święty-Ersetic . She is a student at the Jerzy Kukuczka Academy of Physical Education in Katowice .
