Neuvic ( Occitan : Nuòu Vic , also: Neuvic-sur-l'Isle ) is a French municipality with 3589 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Dordogne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Périgueux and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of Vallée de l'Isle . The inhabitants are called Neuvicois .
geography
Neuvic lies on the right bank of the Isle of River and its tributaries Vern and Salembre . The neighboring communities of Neuvic are Saint-Germain-du-Salembre in the north and north-west, Saint-Léon-sur-l'Isle in the north-east, Grignols in the east, Vallereuil in the south-east, Saint-Séverin-d'Estissac in the south, Sourzac in the south-west as well as Douzillac to the west.
The A89 autoroute runs through the municipality from Bordeaux to Brive-la-Gaillarde .
history
The name Novo Vicus stands for German new place . The community is likely to have originated around 1000.
On 26 July 1944, the community was from the train station on the Resistance of the train robbery Neuvic performed, the resistance fell at the 2.28 billion francs in the hands.
