Gut Steinhorst
The Steinhorst manor from 1721/22, a large, brick -built baroque building with a hipped roof, is one of the most beautiful baroque buildings in the country. The designs for this building came from the important architect Johannes Nicolaus Kuhn , who is best known for his numerous works in Hamburg .
Since the estate was on the border between Lauenburg and Stormarn, it caused a dispute between George II , the King of Great Britain and Duke of Hanover, and Christian VI from 1737 to 1739 . of Denmark, both of which claimed ownership and owed the former owner of the estate. During the negotiations Steinhorst was occupied at the instigation of the Danish ambassador in Hamburg Christian August von Johnn (1688–1764), whereupon Georg II attacked Hanoverian troops, which were superior to the Danish occupiers and were able to drive them out.
