Location of the community of Erfde in the Schleswig-Flensburg district | ||
Erfde ( Danish : Ervde , Low German: Arf ) is a municipality in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein . The community has existed in its current form since 1971.
geography
Erfde is located on a geest island , which, as an old moraine, was surrounded by melt water during the Ice Age. Due to the rise in the groundwater level after the Ice Age, there are now many moors and wetlands in the area.
As the southernmost rural central town in the district, Erfde is also the largest municipality in the Stapelholm region . Erfde is 36 km from the district town of Schleswig near the border with the districts of North Friesland , Dithmarschen and Rendsburg-Eckernförde . The towns of Bargen , Ekel , Erfderfeld , Grevenhorst and Scheppern on the Eider are also located in the municipality.
history
Objects have been found on the Geest Island that suggest that it dates back to around 2800 BC. Was settled.
The St. Marien Magdalenen Church in the center of the village was built in the 12th century as a Romanesque stone church. In the church there is a votive ship , which is reminiscent of the navigation on the Eider, and - as a rarity - a pulpit clock . The Dithmarschers partially destroyed the church in an attack in 1402, so that its roof in its current form was not built until it was rebuilt.
Since Duke Adolf I of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf had the Treene dam near Friedrichstadt in 1570 , the water balance in the region changed and the region around Erfde was flooded by storm surges until 1935 .
The town of Erfde was ravaged by major fires twice: 42 buildings and the pastorate were destroyed in 1698 and almost the entire village was destroyed in a fire in 1768 that lasted for three days.
In the village there is one of the peasant bells typical of the Stapelholm landscape , with which the farmer bailiff called the residents to meetings or to get work done. In the event of danger, the bells served as a warning signal.
Incorporations
On September 1, 1971, the municipality of Bargen was incorporated.
