history
The Monarchs were founded in 2001 as the Los Angeles Kings ( NHL ) farm team . They played their first game on October 6, 2001 against the Lowell Lock Monsters and lost 6: 3. They won their first victory a week later against the Norfolk Admirals . In their history, they won their division once (2004/05) and the Calder Cup in the 2014/15 season .
In January 2015, the American Hockey League announced an extensive restructuring for the 2015/16 season , as part of which a new Pacific Division was established and five teams relocated to California . This also affected the Manchester Monarchs, who swapped places with the Ontario Reign from the ECHL . Thus, the Ontario Reign play from now on in the AHL, while the Manchester Monarchs were established as the new ECHL franchise. Both teams were and remain cooperation partners of the LA Kings.
