history
The Lorraine village is named after the Roman saint Rufina . A church sanctam Ruffinam , which belonged to the parish of Moulins-lès-Metz , is documented for the year 927; Like Moulins, the associated place belonged to the rule of the diocese of Metz and was conquered by France in 1552, which was not officially recognized by Germany until 1648 in the Peace of Westphalia .
The eponymous church had to be closed in 1724 due to dilapidation, and the foundation stone for the new building followed in 1726.
During the time of the French Revolution , the village was temporarily renamed Anthoine-le-Mont in honor of the deputy François Nicolas Anthoine (1758-1793) .
In 1871 the village came to the German Empire and the number of inhabitants decreased from 326 (1866) to 231 inhabitants (1871) due to emigration to France. During the First World War , the German authorities renamed the place Sankt Ruffin in 1915 .
In 1918 the place returned to French administration. During the German occupation in World War II , the village was incorporated into Metz and called Ruffingen during the time of the expulsion of the French population (1940-1944) . In November 1944, the village was liberated again during the battle for Metz and the inhabitants were able to return.
