Zauchescher Kreis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zauchesche Kreis , also Zauchischer Kreis or Zauchscher Kreis, was an administrative unit in the Electorate of Brandenburg, which emerged in the 17th century from the Beritt Beelitz or the historical landscape of the Zauche . It belonged to the Kurmark part of the Mark Brandenburg and existed until 1816, when it was merged with the Belzig district , which was held by the Electoral Saxony until 1815, to form the Zauch-Belzig or Zauch-Belzig District. In 1773, the western part of the Zauchescher Kreis was separated as the Ziesarscher Kreis and placed under the Duchy of Magdeburg .

history

The Zauche Circle was essentially created from the historical landscape of the Zauche . The area around Ziesar, the little country Bärwalde and some exclaves in the Electoral Saxon area as well as the Electorate of Brandenburg Duchy of Magdeburg from 1680 were affiliated . Conversely, there was a Saxon enclave in the Zauchescher Kreis ( Busendorf , Kanin and Klaistow ) and wedged between Zauchescher Kreis and Luckenwaldescher Kreis (until 1773 Duchy of Magdeburg, then Kurmark) the Saxon exclave Blankensee (with Blankensee and Stangenhagen ).

The first approaches for a district constitution in the Mark Brandenburg emerged as early as the 15th century. They were essentially based on the old historical landscapes. In the 16th century, the circles were also identical to the area of office of a land rider. The circles were therefore also called riders. The Thirty Years War is basically the beginning of the circles as they existed at the beginning of the 19th century. So that the troops of the various warring parties who passed through could be quartered, fed and remunerated, the elector appointed so-called land or war commissioners for the circles / mounts or elected from the classes of the respective circles. These were very unpopular positions, especially in the times of the Thirty Years' War. In the further course of history, the war or land commissioners were given further tasks and powers, for example in tax and financial administration and police force. The stands of the district were given the right to present themselves to the land or war commissioner, who was called the district administrator from 1702 onwards. The office was often linked in personal union with the post of district director, the chairman of the district assembly elected by the representatives of the estates of a district.

Places that were separated from the Zauchescher Kreis in 1773

In 1773 the areas mainly around Ziesar or the western part of the Zauchescher Kreis were separated as Ziesarscher Kreis and incorporated into the Duchy of Magdeburg . For this purpose, the ducal-Magdeburg Luckenwaldesche Kreis came to the Kurmark .
