Second performance level - national league
General
The championship in the national league was contested with 16 teams, each of which met twice during the entire season. The national league champion, Vienna, was promoted to the Bundesliga, and the last three were relegated. Rapid Lienz had to go to the Carinthian regional league, Rätia Bludenz had to relegate to the Vorarlberg regional league and Kapfenberger SV had to relegate to the Styrian regional league. Promotion to the national league was more complicated, as there was an asymmetrical third level of performance this season: The champion of the Regionalliga Ost, Kremser SC, rose directly, in qualifying games the six national champions determined another two promoted players: SC Amateurs St. Veit / Glan ( Middle group) and SC Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz (West group).
