- Berlin / Germany : The transport ministers of the federal states reject the plans of German Transport Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee for privatization of Deutsche Bahn and demand improvements. They are calling for a “real right to have a say and control over the use of federal funds earmarked for investments in local transport”.

- Bangladesh , India , Nepal : The floods in Assam , Bihar , Uttar Pradesh and Nepal have left 20 million people homeless . In India alone, 1,300 people are said to have died from the consequences (drowning, lack of clean drinking water, dysentery).
- Plaidt / Germany : A slight earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 M w with an epicenter in Plaidt near Koblenz shook the region around 5 a.m. local time.
- Surrey / United Kingdom : UK veterinary chief Debby Reynolds confirms the foot and mouth disease outbreak . The pathogen of the disease was found in around 60 cattle on a farm in Wanborough near Guildford in the southern county of Surrey.

- Dorset , United Kingdom : After the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in the southern county of Surrey has been confirmed, Prime Minister Gordon Brown is taking his leave off to lead crisis management . In 2001, millions of cattle had to be killed to prevent the disease from spreading.
- London / United Kingdom : The Brown government has imposed a ban on exports of cattle and animal products from all over the country because of foot and mouth disease . In addition, the transport of cattle , sheep , pigs and goats is prohibited.

- China : The to the toothed whales counting Chinese river dolphin is officially extinct and thus the first whale that was eradicated by the action of man.
- Kuala Lumpur / Malaysia : Beginning of the Badminton World Championship in individual competitions , which will last until August 19 .
- Oldenburg / Germany : The preliminary round of the 2007 men's fistball world championship will take place in Oldenburg. With two wins, the German national team will definitely qualify for the second round. The other favorites Austria, Switzerland and Brazil also prevail with two wins in their group.
- Saarbrücken / Germany : With the transfer of the Green MP Barbara Spaniol , the Left Party is represented in the Saarland state parliament for the first time .
- Tbilisi / Georgia : After the alleged rocket fire in a Georgian village from Russian territory, the government appoints the Russian ambassador to the Georgian Foreign Ministry to clarify the incident. Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili speaks in connection even by a guided missile of an aircraft. The background to the foreign policy alienation of the two states is the western orientation of Georgia, which is striving to join the European Union and is considering joining NATO .

- Duisburg / Germany : Start of the 36th Canoe World Championships , which will take place until August 12, 2007. This is the fourth time that the World Championships will take place in Duisburg. The world championships are also qualifying regattas for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing .

- Germany , Austria , Switzerland : In the event of severe storms , more than 45 l / m 2 of precipitation falls within a few minutes in many places in the evening . - Frankfurt am Main / Germany : The European Central Bank has pumped more than 150 billion euros into the market in the last few days to ease the turbulence caused by the US real estate and mortgage crisis .
- Magdeburg / Germany : For the first time, the Birthler authorities found a specific shooting order for a Stasi unit to be used on the inner-German border in the stored sources.
- Munich / Germany : In an interview with Bayerischer Rundfunk, the Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber describes the debate currently initiated by Christa Stewens , which brought him up as a potential successor to Federal President Horst Köhler , as superfluous. He himself proposed Köhler at the time (to Angela Merkel ) and, given Köhler's good work, had no doubts about a second term in office, which he intended to support.

- Hunan / China : At least 29 people are killed in the collapse of a bridge over the Tuo River in the central Chinese province of Hunan; 39 people are still missing. The 320-meter-long bridge that was supposed to connect Fenghuang District with the airport in neighboring Guizhou Province collapsed when construction workers tried to remove the scaffolding .
- Warsaw / Poland : The Polish government coalition under Jarosław Kaczyński is terminated by him by dismissing ministers of the coalition partner and replacing them with party comrades. New elections are planned for October 2007.

- al-Qahtaniyya , Siba Sheikh Khidir / Iraq : In four explosions in the villages of al-Qahtaniyya ( Kurmanji til Ezer ) and Siba Sheikh Khidir (Kurmanji Siba Şêx Xidir ) are 796 people jesidischer ethnicity killed and injured another 1,562 Yazidis.
- Berlin / Germany : The German Interior Minister Wolfgang Schäuble (CDU) is in favor of a reform of the civil servants' pension and an increase in the retirement age to also 67 years: “The civil servants, soldiers and judges of the federal government will also have to accept restrictions on their retirement pensions that reflect the restrictions in pension insurance. ”The SPD speaks of a consensus across party lines.
- El Segundo / United States : With the largest recall campaign in its company's history, the US toy manufacturer Mattel is withdrawing over 18 million toys made in China, including Barbie dolls, for safety reasons. According to the company management, there are small magnets attached to the products that children can swallow.
- Pyongyang / North Korea : In heavy storms and rains in North Korea, 200 people are killed or go missing. 30,000 houses are destroyed, numerous bridges collapse and streets are washed away.

- Duisburg / Germany : On Wednesday night, six young Italians between the ages of 16 and 39 were killed in their car near Duisburg Central Station during the Mafia murders in Duisburg . The Italian Ministry of the Interior confirms the Mafia contacts of those shot and sees the act as the result of a dispute between two Calabrian “families”. It is the first time that the local 'Ndrangheta has committed a murder of this magnitude abroad.
- Kabul / Afghanistan : Three men were killed and one seriously injured in an attack on German police officers in Kabul.

- Huntington / United States : In the US state of Utah , three rescue workers die while attempting to rescue six workers buried in a coal mine at a depth of 450 m on August 6 .
- Lima / Peru : According to civil defense, more than 300 people die in a severe earthquake with a magnitude of 8.0 near the cities of Ica and Chincha Alta . More than 1,000 people are injured.

- Mügeln / Germany : During a city festival in Mügeln in the Torgau-Oschatz district , there is a dispute between Germans and eight Indians . Around 50 German youths chase the eight Indians from a festival tent through the city to a pizzeria . According to eyewitnesses, xenophobic slogans are shouted. 69 police officers manage to put an end to the hustle and bustle. A total of 14 people are injured, all eight of them Indians.

- Ankara / Turkey : After the early parliamentary elections 2007 in Turkey on July 22, 2007, the first round of the renewed presidential election will take place on August 20, 2007 ; the resuming Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gül provisionally fails again in the Turkish parliament with 341 votes from his AKP . The 99 MPs of the MHP stay away from the election. The second ballot is scheduled for Friday, August 24, 2007.
- Okinawa / Japan : A Boeing 737 of the Taiwanese airline China Airlines goes up in flames shortly after landing at Okinawa Airport in Naha . The 165 passengers were able to exit the aircraft via the evacuation slides shortly before the explosion .

- Peloponnese / Greece : The conflagration in Greece has assumed catastrophic proportions, over 50 people die from the forest fires .
- Yaren / Nauru : The parliamentary elections in the smallest republic in the world have started. President Ludwig Scotty had brought the elections forward by two months. Scotty’s ruling followers are predestined to win the election and for a further three-year term. Scotty had recently announced unpopular constitutional reforms, which should lead the bankrupt country further out of the miserable situation.

- Yaren / Nauru : The first projections of the parliamentary elections show that the allegiance to President Ludwig Scotty has won a huge election and won 15 of the 18 parliamentary seats. Scotty is expected to be confirmed in office by Parliament in the presidential election on Tuesday.

- Yaren / Nauru : After the elections in the small Pacific state, President Ludwig Scotty is confirmed in office by the Nauruan parliament . The opposition nominated Marcus Stephen . Scotty receives 14 out of 17 votes.
