  • Germany : According to media reports, there was a breach of antitrust law on the German energy market after internal agreements between the energy giants RWE , E.ON , Vattenfall and EnBW . The “energy cartel” has artificially increased electricity prices in recent years.
  • Guatemala City / Guatemala : In the second round of the presidential election , Álvaro Colom from the National Union of Hope received almost 53% of the vote. He will be the first Social Democratic President of Guatemala.
  • Colombia : In Colombia there are severe storms with hailstorms.
  • Mexico : A governor asks for help in dealing with the flood disaster , including a. there is looting.
  • Pakistan : After President Pervez Musharraf declared a state of emergency for the entire country, security forces arrested over 500 people, private TV channels were switched off and the date of the parliamentary elections planned for January 2008 was called into question.
  • Chad : Seven of the 16 Europeans arrested in Chad on suspicion of child trafficking and fraud will have their freedom back.

  • Berlin / Germany : The Bundestag passes the law on data retention , which makes it possible to save technical data for telephony and Internet communication for six months .
