- Nicosia / Cyprus , Valletta / Malta : The countries Malta and Cyprus introduce the euro as the official national currency . This means that the euro is the official currency in 15 EU countries. However, the euro does not apply in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as a legal tender .
- Pulheim / Germany : The last German veteran of the First World War is dead. Erich Kästner saw the light of day 107 years and nine months ago and was drafted in July 1918.

- Karlsruhe / Germany : According to today's decision by the Federal Court of Justice (BGH), the opponents of the G8 summit are neither members of a terrorist organization nor members of a criminal organization . The raid by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office in May 2007 against 40 apartments and facilities of the so-called autonomous scene in six federal states was declared illegal. Kramer sees "the first signs that the NPD and other right-wing extremist groups in particular are using the debate".
- London / United Kingdom : Kenya's opposition leader Raila Odinga reveals to the broadcaster BBC that he is related to the Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and is in contact. A negotiated solution with President Mwai Kibaki is on Odinga's agenda .

- Braunschweig / Germany : In the process of the VW corruption affair , ex-CEO and chairman of the supervisory board Ferdinand Piëch was summoned as a witness before the regional court in Braunschweig. - Taipei / Taiwan : In the elections for the legislative yuan in the Republic of China (Taiwan) , the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP ) suffers a heavy defeat against the opposition and China- friendly national party Kuomintang (KMT), which holds 81 of 113 seats and thus a two-thirds majority in Legislative yuan has. The President Chen Shui-bian (DPP), who advocated the independence of Taiwan, called the election result the worst setback in the history of the DPP and resigned as party leader of the DPP with immediate effect.
- Wuppertal / Germany : The Bundestag administration is demanding back approx. 8.5 million euros in government grants from the Die Grauen party due to their donation scandal .
