  • Gardez / Afghanistan : 39 people are killed and over 80 injured in a suicide attack by two assassins on the Shiite Khawaja Hassan mosque of the Hazara .

  • Idlib / Syria : The Syrian armed forces begin preparations for an offensive on Idlib in the Idlib governorate of the same name as the last major rebel area in the country. Dozens of air and artillery strikes have been carried out in northwest Syria, including the use of fighter jets and helicopters. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), at least 22 people were killed.
  • La Paz / Bolivia : President Evo Morales hands over the newly built Casa Grande del Pueblo (“Great House of the People”), which is replacing the old Palacio de Gobierno as the seat of government.
  • Saʿda / Yemen : In an air strike by the military coalition led by Saudi Arabia , a school bus was attacked in a market in Dahjan, killing at least 51 people, including 40 children, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). 79 people are injured. In a statement published by the news agency SPA, the military alliance, which has existed since 2015, spoke of a "legitimate military operation". UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called for an independent and swift investigation into the attack.

  • Ankara / Turkey The Turkish lira , which had already fallen sharply before, fell by almost a fifth due to new punitive tariffs by the USA on steel and aluminum. The rate of the lira has now fallen to 7.61 lira for one euro and 6.87 lira for one US dollar. The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called on his citizens to exchange their foreign currencies in order to counter the decline of the lira. At a rally in Bayburt , he said, "If you have dollars, euros or gold under your pillow, go to the bank and exchange it for Turkish lira. This is a national fight."
  • Bogota / Colombia : The Colombian government under President Iván Duque has announced that it will leave the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), which was founded in 2008 . Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Peru had also announced their exit in April 2018.
  • Lisbon / Portugal : A week after a huge forest fire broke out in the hinterland of the Portuguese Algarve coast , firefighters brought the flames under control.
  • San Francisco / United States : The federal district court for Northern California approves the suit of a caretaker against the agricultural company Monsanto (now part of Bayer AG ) for damages because of the lymph gland cancer suffered from the weed killer Roundup with the controversial active ingredient glyphosate, which has been used for several years, and condemns Monsanto Payment of $ 289 million. The jury considered it proven that the user was not adequately informed about the dangers.

The spokesman, Omar Naji, blames the Moroccan authorities as well as Spain and the European Union (EU) for the procedure.
  • Zurich / Switzerland : The new FIFA ethics regulations come into force. This new code of ethics was criticized for the fact that corruption was no longer a punishable offense and that bribery and match-fixing could only be investigated for a limited time. In addition, the new paragraph 22.2 of the FIFA Code of Ethics has been introduced, which prohibits all players, agents and football officials from making publicly defamatory statements about FIFA and those subject to the FIFA Code of Ethics.   • Ljubljana / Slovenia : After the parliamentary elections on June 3, the new Prime Minister Marjan Šarec , who heads a minority government made up of five center-left parties , is sworn in.
  • Washington, DC , United States : The US government has sanctioned four commanders in the Myanmar Armed Forces and Border Police. The three army commanders Lieutenant General Aung Kyaw Zaw, Major General Maung Maung Soe and Colonel General Min Aung Hlaing and the commander of the San Lwin Border Police are responsible for "ethnic cleansing, massacres, sexual attacks and extrajudicial killings" against the Muslim Rohingya and other minorities directed. On June 26, 2018, the Council for Foreign Affairs of the European Union (EU) had already issued sanctions against seven responsible generals.

  • Berlin / Germany : Federal Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen and Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer announce the establishment of an agency for innovations in cybersecurity (ADIC). From the beginning of 2019, the agency is to promote and finance ambitious research and development projects with high innovation potential in the field of cybersecurity . The aim is to keep key technologies that are important for internal and external security in Germany.
  • Boa Vista / Brazil : As part of national security, the Brazilian government has ordered the continued deployment of soldiers from the armed forces to the state of Roraima to secure the border until September 12, 2018 . In the border region to economically ailing Venezuela , the number of economic refugees is increasing again. Since 2017, more than 127,000 Venezuelans have left their country and crossed the border into Brazil, of which around 69,000 have traveled on to other countries.   • Ankara / Turkey : The Turkish government is increasing taxes on balances in foreign currency to support the ailing currency lira . By decree by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan , the withholding tax on money deposits in foreign currency will be increased from 18 to 20 percent for up to six months, while the tax on deposits of up to one year will be increased from 15 to 16 percent. In return, the withholding tax on cash deposits in lira will be reduced from 15 to 5 percent for up to six months and from 12 to 3 percent for cash deposits in lira up to one year and from 10 to zero percent for deposits of more than one year.

  • Donetsk / Ukraine : The Armed Forces Command of the self-proclaimed People's Republic of Donetsk announces the death of the rebel chief and self-proclaimed President Alexander Sachartschenko after a bomb attack on Café Separ .
  • Sofia / Bulgaria : After a coach accident due to bad roads near Svoge on August 26th with 17 dead, three government ministers resigned: Interior Minister Valentin Radew, Transport Minister Ivailo Moskovsky and Minister for Regional Development Nikolaj Nankow. All belong to the ruling conservative GERB party .
  • Washington, DC / United States : After a tender, the US Navy awards the contract for the construction and development of four pre-series machines for the MQ-25 Stingray stealth drone to the armaments company Boeing , which is scheduled to begin flight tests in 2021. These carrier-based drones are supposed to take on the aerial refueling of combat aircraft and, in addition, the reconnaissance. The contract is valued at approximately $ 805.3 million and the UCLASS program is expected to purchase an additional 72 MQ-25s worth $ 13 billion by 2024 .
