Bull is a French municipality with 433 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .

geography

Bulle is 824  m above sea level, about ten kilometers west of the city of Pontarlier (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , in the middle of the wide high plateau of Arlier (Pontarlier-Frasne), north of the Drugeon and the Montagne du Laveron .

The area of 14.03 km² large municipal area covers a section of the French Jura. The whole area is occupied by the high plateau of Arlier, which averages 830 m. It is mostly covered by meadow land, but also shows some forest areas and in the very south (near the Drugeon) a moor area, in which peat used to be cut. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. At 876 m, the highest point in Bulle is reached on a hill on the north-western edge of the Combe de la Rochette depression .

Neighboring communities of Bulle are Chapelle-d'Huin in the northwest, Bannans in the north and east and La Rivière-Drugeon in the southwest.

history

Various finds indicate that the municipality of Bulle was already populated in Gallo-Roman times. Together with Franche-Comté , the village came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678. Since 2003 Bulle has been a member of the communal association Communauté de communes du Plateau de Frasne et du Val du Drugeon, which comprises 10 villages .

Attractions

The village church of Saint-André was built around 1750, redesigned in 1838 and last renovated in 1994. The fountain in the village square also dates from the 18th century.

Economy and Infrastructure

Until well into the 20th century, Bulle was a village dominated by agriculture, especially dairy farming and cattle breeding. In addition, there are now some local small businesses. In the meantime, the village has also turned into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.

The village is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main D471 road from Pontarlier to Champagnole . Other road links exist with Bannans and La Rivière-Drugeon.
