Weyerbusch is a municipality in the Altenkirchen (Westerwald) district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld . Weyerbusch is a state-approved climatic health resort .

Geographical location

Weyerbusch is located on the Altenkirchen plateau in the northern Westerwald . The federal highway 8 runs through the place, which corresponds to the course of the historic Cölnische Hohe Heer- und Geleitstrasse from Cologne to Frankfurt . The district town of Altenkirchen is about seven kilometers to the east . Weyerbusch includes the districts of Hilkhausen, Irlen and Wiesplacken. The highest point is the Asberg at 334 meters above sea level.

history

Weyerbusch

Since Weyerbusch is located on a watershed and not, like the surrounding communities, on flowing waters, settlement is likely to have taken place later (than from neighboring Hilkhausen, for example). Old field names such as “In der Hofwiese” suggest that a single farm was the starting point for settlement; It was named after ponds, but they were all filled in later. The further settlement was based on the thoroughfare, which means Weyerbusch was a street village from the start; Craftsmen, blacksmiths and wheelwrighters settled here.

Weyerbusch belonged to the parish of Birnbach in the county of Sayn , most recently Sayn-Altenkirchen , and was first mentioned in 1593. Weyerbusch was a post office owned by the von Thurn und Taxis family on the " Hohen Strasse " from Cologne to Frankfurt, which has been known since the early Middle Ages .

In 1578 there were three courtyards in the village; after the Thirty Years War there were already seven farms. In 1793 the place had only 102 inhabitants, fewer than surrounding places like Hasselbach , Birnbach or Werkhausen . In 1853 there were already 242 residents.

In 1806 the county of Sayn-Altenkirchen and thus Weyerbusch came to the Duchy of Nassau and in 1815 to the Kingdom of Prussia . Under the Prussian administration, Weyerbusch became the seat of the Weyerbusch mayor in 1817 within the then new Altenkirchen district. As the successor to the mayor's office, the Weyerbusch office existed from 1927, from which the Weyerbusch community was temporarily formed as part of the administrative reform in Rhineland-Palatinate, which was assigned to the Altenkirchen community in 1970.

From 1845 to 1848 Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen was mayor in Weyerbusch. During this time he founded a cooperative from which the still existing co-operative banks have emerged. On May 1, 1969, the previously independent community Hilkhausen was incorporated.

Raiffeisen already tried to sell land belonging to the municipality to those willing to build at low prices. This policy has been consistently continued up to the present day, with the municipality buying up land in order to develop it as building land. So after the Second World War, building areas such as “Am Alten Born” or “Am Seifen” emerged. Due to the strong growth of the community, Weyerbusch now has medical practices, a pharmacy, a drugstore, banks, businesses, pensions, a church welfare station and other organizations, which enables the local community to meet the criteria of a central community.

Hilkhausen

The formerly independent community Hilkhausen, whose name ending -hausen indicates an early settlement in the 7th century, was called Hylighusen and Hilkenhusen in earlier times . The place is first mentioned in Hilgenroth's book of miracles in 1427. around the year 1600 there were 13 fireplaces (= houses); the number of inhabitants rose by 1800 to 113, in 1840 to 159, in 1871 to 179, in 1939 it fell to 124 and in 1950 it was 166, due to the influx of displaced persons .

Politics and communal matters

Municipal council

The local council in Weyerbusch consists of 16 council members, who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman. The 16 seats in the municipal council are divided between two groups of voters .

Dietmar Winhold became mayor of Weyerbusch in 2014. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in office for a further five years with a share of the vote of 86.47%. Dietmar Winhold's predecessor was Manfred Hendricks, who held the office for 20 years.

Hilkhausen district

The local community Weyerbusch has formed a local district with Hilkhausen . The election of a local advisory council is waived as stipulated in the main statutes.

On August 20, 2019, Guido Barth was again mayor of Hilkhausen after a five-year hiatus. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for five years with 90.80% of the vote. Markus Heiermann held the office in the 2014–2019 electoral term.

Sports

The game and sports club SSV Weyerbusch 1929 eV currently plays in the football district league A Westerwald / Sieg. The club had its greatest success in the 2003/2004 season with promotion to the District League East. In addition to the football department, the club also has departments for tennis, gymnastics, handball and Ho Sin Do.
