Jainvillotte is a French commune with 79 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). The municipality is part of the Neufchâteau arrondissement and the Ouest Vosgien municipal association founded in 2017 .

Jainvillotte is located on the northeastern edge of the Bassigny landscape , about 13 kilometers south of Neufchâteau on the River Anger . Jainvillotte is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Circourt-sur-Mouzon in the north, Landaville in the northeast, Lemmecourt and Beaufremont in the east, Gendreville in the south, Sartes in the southwest and Pompierre in the west. The 7.44 km² municipal area is wooded ( Bois Saint-Charles, Bois de la Combe Morée ).

history

The area around Jainvilotte was part of the former Duchy of Bar . Early spellings of the place name were Janivillula, Jainvellotte and Jainvlotte , before Jainvillotte prevailed from 1574 . At the beginning of the 18th century, Jainvillotte belonged to the Bailiwick of Bassigny, from 1790 during the French Revolution the village became part of the new Neufchâteau district. Ecclesiastically, Jainvillotte was dependent on the abbot in Saint-Mihiel and was part of the parish of Neufchâteau.

Population development

The small community always had over 300 residents in the first half of the 19th century.

Economy and Infrastructure

In addition to a stone quarrying operation in the east of the municipality, there is also a cattle breeding business in Jainvillotte.

Jainvillotte is only connected to the neighboring communities of Sartes , Gendreville and Circourt-sur-Mouzon by narrow back roads . The town of Neufchâteau , 15 kilometers away, is a rail and road junction.
