history
The place names Viskerium and Viskeriacum for the village of Vicherey appeared as early as Gallo-Roman times . The letter sequence sk suggests that there was already a settlement of the Celtic Leukers here . The former castle above the village probably belonged to the Merovingian king Dagobert II , who gave it to the bishop of Toul Theofred in 651 , which meant that a provost's office was built here depending on the cathedral chapter in Toul, which lasted until the French Revolution. The cathedral chapter built a castle on the grounds of the castle, where several gentlemen resided - including Charles the Bold in 1475. The castle was finally destroyed by the French and the allied Swedes during the Thirty Years' War . Around the middle of the 19th century, the remains of the ruins were razed to the ground and the dungeon walled up. The former castle chapel was then converted into today's parish church of Saint-Remy. The foundation walls of the church were reinforced and the tower raised.
coat of arms
The three silver stones on a red background as symbols of the cathedral chapter of Toul refer to Vicherey as the long-standing seat of a provost of the diocese of Toul.
