Isches (1793 and 1801 still with the spelling Ische ) is a French commune with 164 inhabitants (January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It is part of the Neufchâteau arrondissement and the Vosges Côté Sud Ouest community association founded in 2017 . The residents call themselves Ischois (es) .

geography

The municipality is located 30 kilometers southwest of Vittel in the extreme southwest of the historic Lorraine region . Northwest of the community runs the Maas - Saône - watershed . The rivers in the 13.6 km² municipal area ( Duron Rupt, Ruisseau de la Fontaine au Fer ) drain south-east to the upper Saône. The river Les Prés de l'Eau takes a detour via the Apance to the Saône. The highest point in the municipality is an unnamed altitude (483 meters above sea level) in a wooded area ( Bois de la Marnérie ) in the western Monts Faucilles .

Neighboring municipalities of Isches are Serécourt in the north, Tignécourt in the east, Fouchécourt in the southeast, Ainvelle in the south, Senaide and Serqueux in the southwest, Mont-lès-Lamarche in the west and Lamarche in the northwest.

In Isches, agriculture continues to dominate, especially dairy farming, poultry, sheep and goat farming.

The D 1 road from Jussey to Neufchâteau and the D 460 road from Bourbonne-les-Bains to Darney run through Isches . In Val-de-Meuse , 23 kilometers west of Isches, there is a connection to the A 31 autoroute . The train station in the small town of Lamarche , 14 kilometers away , is on the railway line from Nancy to Culmont - Chalindrey .
