Villouxel is a French commune with 82 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Vosges department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Lorraine ). It is part of the Neufchâteau arrondissement and the Ouest Vosgien community association founded in 2017 .

geography

The municipality is located on the upper reaches of the Saônelle river in the extreme southwest of the historic Lorraine region , about ten kilometers west of Neufchâteau on the northeastern edge of the Langres plateau . In the wooded community, the highest point is reached in the west at 438 m above sea level. The hamlet of Le Fourneau belongs to Villouxel . Neighboring municipalities of Villouxel are Pargny-sous-Mureau in the north and Liffol-le-Grand in the south.

history

The village was first mentioned as Vilorcés in 1215 . It belonged to the Bailiwick of Lamarche , ecclesiastically Villouxel was a branch of the parish in Pargny-sous-Mureau, to which the tithe was also paid. Villouxel only got its own church - dedicated to St. Martin - in 1830. The town hall and school building ( Mairie-école ) was built in 1853. Between 1790 and 1801, Villouxel was part of the former canton of Liffol-le-Grand. 1793, in which During the French Revolution, the municipality was temporarily called Villouxelle .

The road from Liffol-le-Grand to Coussey runs through the municipality of Villouxel . The D 476 trunk road runs three kilometers to the south from Toul to Chaumont . The train station in Neufchâteau, ten kilometers from Villouxel, is on the Culmont-Chalindrey-Toul railway line .
