The area around Offroicourt is characterized by hills and the wide floodplain of the Val d'Arol , a left tributary of the Madon . In the northwest, the municipality has larger shares in the forests of Bois de la Haye and Bois Pransieux , further forest areas are in the southeast ( Bois de la Malhaye ) of the municipality. history
The name Offroicourt is made up of the Germanic personal name Alfred / Olfred and the Latin suffix cortem for yard or field .
The place name Olfrodecurte has been handed down from the 10th century . Other spellings were Offroicort (1204), Offroicore (1208), Offreicort (1233), Offricourt (1255), Offroicour (1298), Offracourt (1322), Juxta Offroicuriam (1402), Offraucourt (1478) and Hoffroicour (1656). During the Ancien Régime , Offroicourt was the capital of a barony . Nothing is left of the Sommièvre family's castle, built in 1515 . Only one street, the rue du château , still reminds of the manor's existence. In 1594 the village belonged to the Bailiwick of the Vosges. The provosts of Mirecourt and Remoncourt also had properties in Offroicourt. In 1751 the village was part of the Bailiwick of Mirecourt, from whose territory the canton Rouvres-en-Xaintois also formed in 1790, to which Offroicourt belonged until 1801. In the past, Offroicourt was an annex to the parish of Saint-Martin-sous-Montfort. The later separate parish belonged to the diocese of Toul and to the deanery of Porsas. The town hall and school building were built in 1830 (restored in 1880). In 1854 a Chiolera epidemic claimed 33 victims out of a population of 500. Heavy rain and subsequent floods in 1839 and 1873 led to the destruction of the stone bridges.
Population development
Offroicourt had more than 400 inhabitants until the second half of the 19th century.

Attractions
The Church of the Assumption of Our Lady ( Église de l'Assomption-de-Notre-Dame ) from the 15th century consists of a pentagonal choir - as an extension a single-nave castle chapel (some tombstones bear the year 1525) with a tower on a veranda. The nave was rebuilt in 1739 at the expense of the Remiremont chapter above the previous building. In the church there are some statues worth seeing from the period between the 16th and 19th centuries.
Economy and Infrastructure
Agriculture still plays a role in Offroicourt and the surrounding area. There are six farms in the municipality (dairy, goat and sheep breeding). Some residents are commuters to the industrial estates of the nearby towns of Vittel and Mirecourt .
The partly two-lane expressway D 166 from Épinal via Mirecourt to Neufchâteau runs five kilometers north of Offroicourt. There are also road connections to the neighboring communities of Remicourt and Viviers-lès-Offroicourt.
