Provenchères-lès-Darney is a French commune in the department of Vosges in the region Grand Est . It is part of the Neufchâteau arrondissement and the Vosges Côté Sud Ouest community association founded in 2017 .

The community of Provenchères-lès-Darney, with 159 inhabitants (January 1, 2017), is located between Contrexéville and Darney , about ten kilometers south of Vittel in the extreme southwest of Lorraine.
Which runs along the northern border of the municipality Maas - Saône - watershed . Here is the Haut-de-Thiébaut at 458 m, the highest point in the municipality. The rivers Ruisseau le Sicherey and Ruisseau de Quart Fontaine , which arise in the Provenchères district, flow independently of each other in a southward direction to the upper Saône.
More than half of the municipal area is covered by forests ( les Grand Bois ).
Neighboring municipalities of Provenchères are Lignéville in the north, Saint-Baslemont in the northeast, Relanges in the southeast, Nonville and Bleurville in the south and Viviers-le-Gras in the west.
history
In 1136 the village was first mentioned in a document as De Provincheriis . Provenchères belonged to the bailiwick of Bassigny , later the provost and the Bailiwick of Lamarche . The parish of Provenchères was part of the deanery Vittel in the diocese of Toul . The tithe was shared between the Baron von Deuilly , whose family was based in Serécourt , and the Abbot of Luxeuil . Le Cras Castle was destroyed by the Swedes in 1691. The street names Rue du Cras and Allée du Cras still remember them . In order to avoid confusion with the municipality of Provenchères-sur-Fave , which is also located in the Vosges department, Provenchères was renamed Provenchères-lès-Darney by decree of May 22, 1867.

The D 164 trunk road from Neufchâteau via Contrexéville , Darney and Bains-les-Bains to Saint-Loup-sur-Semouse is the main road through the municipality. The nearest train station is in Contrexéville, nine kilometers away.
