J. Edward Roush

John Edward Roush (born September 12, 1920 in Barnsdall , Osage County , Oklahoma , †  March 26, 2004 in Huntington , Indiana ) was an American politician . Between 1959 and 1977 he represented the state of Indiana in the US House of Representatives twice .

Career

Edward Roush attended Huntington High School in Indiana until 1938 and then Huntington College until 1942 . During the Second World War he served in the US Army between 1942 and 1946 . After a subsequent law degree at Indiana University in Bloomington and his admission as a lawyer in 1949, he began to work in this profession. Between 1950 and 1952 he served again in the Army. Politically, Roush was a member of the Democratic Party . He was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives in 1949 and 1950 . From 1954 to 1958 he was a district attorney in Huntington County . He was also the curator of Huntington College from 1958 to 1960 and from 1981 to 1987.

In the 1958 congressional election , Roush was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fifth constituency of Indiana , where he succeeded John V. Beamer on January 3, 1959 . After four re-elections, he was able to complete five legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1969 . These were shaped by the events of the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement . In 1968 he was not confirmed. Two years later , Roush was re-elected to Congress in the fourth district of his state, where he replaced E. Ross Adair on January 3, 1971 . After two re-elections, he was able to spend three more terms in the US House of Representatives until January 3, 1977. During this time the end of the Vietnam War and the Watergate Affair fell . In 1976 Roush was defeated by the later Republican US Vice President Dan Quayle .

Between 1977 and 1979, Roush was a director of the Environmental Protection Agency . In 1989 he was acting director of Huntington College. Edward Roush died in Huntington on March 26, 2004.
