The defending champion in the singles was the Croatian Marin Čilić , who no longer took part in the tournament this year. Fernando Verdasco , who was seeded two, won the final against seed list sixth Sam Querrey in two sets with 6: 4 and 7: 6 7 . For Verdasco this was the third single title on the ATP Tour. In doubles, Marcelo Melo and André Sá were the defending champions, they were eliminated in the semi-finals this year. The Austrian duo Julian Knowle and Jürgen Melzer won the final in straight sets against Bruno Soares and Kevin Ullyett .
The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 48 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The 16 top seeded players in the singles each got a bye into the second round. The total prize pool was $ 663,750; total financial liabilities were $ 750,000.
The qualification took place from August 19-21, 2009. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There was also a lucky loser.
