2. Lig Aategorisi 2002/03

The 2002/03 Süper Lig was the 45th season of the top Turkish league in men's football . It started on August 9, 2002 with the game Trabzonspor against Fenerbahçe Istanbul and ended on May 31, 2002 with the 34th matchday. From December 23, 2002 to February 1, 2003 the season was interrupted by the winter break.

Beşiktaş Istanbul became the champion in the 100th anniversary year of its establishment, ahead of local rivals Galatasaray Istanbul . The relegated were Altay Izmir , Göztepe Izmir and Kocaelispor . Fenerbahçe Istanbul came in 6th place.

It was the first season after the 2002 World Cup that Turkey finished third. Many football fans hoped that the success would be reflected in the clubs in Europe.

Attendees

For the 2002/03 Süper Lig, the 15 clubs remaining from the previous season were joined by the three promoted teams from the last second division season . The climbers were the first to third place in the 2nd league Altay Izmir , Elazığspor and Adanaspor . While Altay Izmir returned after two years, Adanaspor managed to rise again immediately. For Elazığspor it was the first first division participation in their club history.
