Chamesey is a French municipality with 136 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Doubs in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
geography
Chamesey is located at 725 m , twelve kilometers west of Maîche and about 32 kilometers south-southwest of the city of Montbéliard (as the crow flies). The village extends in the Jura , on an extensive high plateau on the northwest side of the Dessoubre valley , at the southern foot of the Chamesey ridge.
The area of the 6.42 km² large municipality covers a section of the French Jura. The eastern part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is an average of 700 m. It is mainly made up of meadow and pasture land. The plateau has no above-ground watercourses because the rainwater seeps into the karstified subsoil. To the west, the municipal area extends over the wide ridge of Chamesey, which separates the plateau from the western basin of Pierrefontaine. At this height, the highest point of Chamesey is reached at 865 m.
The hamlet of Derrière le Crêt ( 845 m ) on the ridge of Chamesey belongs to Chamesey. Neighboring municipalities of Chamesey are Belleherbe in the north, Charmoille in the east, Longevelle-lès-Russey and Bretonvillers in the south and Pierrefontaine-les-Varans in the west.
On January 1, 2009 there was a change in the arrondissement membership of the municipality. Previously belonging to the arrondissement of Montbéliard , all municipalities of the canton came to the arrondissement of Pontarlier.

With 136 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Chamesey is one of the smallest communities in the Doubs department. After the population had always been between 145 and 175 in the first half of the 20th century, a population decline has been recorded since the early 1960s.
Economy and Infrastructure
Until well into the 20th century, Chamesey was a village dominated by agriculture (cattle and dairy farming, some arable and fruit growing). In addition, there are now some local small businesses, especially in wood processing. Many workers are also commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
The village is located away from the major thoroughfares on a department road that leads from Belleherbe to Bretonvillers. Further road connections exist with Longevelle-lès-Russey and Laviron.
