The three- cushion world cup 1995/5 was the fifth and last UMB-world cup tournament in the tenth year of the three-cushion world cup. The tournament took place from May 24th to 28th, 1995 in this discipline of carom billiards in Hooglede in the Belgian province of West Flanders. It was the tenth three-cushion World Cup tournament in Belgium.
history
For the first time in the long three-cushion history, a woman took part in this World Cup tournament. The 19-year-old Japanese Orie Hida finished second in her qualifying group after a loss to her teacher Joji Kai and a win against the Austrian Alexander Weiss and was eliminated. The Portuguese Manuel Fradinho and the Belgian Eddy Merckx played a sensational game in the first round . Fradinho won with 3: 1 sets and a very good average of 2.363 . Merckx also had a very good average of 1.952. Otherwise the tournament belonged to the Danes. They finished in first, third and fourth place. The best of them was 47-year-old Hans Laursen, who defeated the current Dutch world champion Rini van Bracht 3-1 in the final . In the game between the two Danish youngsters for third place, Dion Nelin prevailed against Brian Knudsen with 2-1 sets.
Tournament mode
In the qualifying round, two sets of 15 points each are played in Round Robin . The two best in the group qualify for the 1/16 finals. There are also 14 seeded players. From the main competition (1/16 final), all games are played on three sets of 15 points each. The small final for third place is only played on two sets of 15 points in the knockout system .
In the event of a tie, the following order will be applied:
MP = match points
GD = general average
HS = maximum series

^ Heinrich Weingartner: Billiards . No. 77 (August / September). Vienna 1995, p. 6-9 .
The three-cushion World Cup was organized by the founding association, the "
Billiards Worldcup Association " (BWA) until 1998 . Disputes between the BWA and the world association
Union Mondiale de Billard (UMB) led to parallel tournaments between 1994 and 1997. The UMB / BWA organized the tournament together until the beginning of 1999. Since the dissolution of the BWA in 1999, the UMB has been the sole organizer.
From 1988-1991 the UMB did not host any world championships. During this time, the annual overall winner of the World Cup was crowned world champion.
