- Cairo / Egypt : The Executive Committee of the ruling National Democratic Party resigns as a whole, while Husni Mubarak remains its chairman and state president of the country.

- Stuttgart / Germany : The regional court sentenced the father of the gunman von Winnenden, among other things, for negligent homicide to a prison sentence of one year and nine months on probation.
- Thimphu / Bhutan : More than two years after the attacks of November 26, 2008 in Mumbai , the nuclear powers India and Pakistan agree on new peace talks, which will, among other things, deal with the Kashmir conflict .

- Hamburg / Germany : In the general election , the SPD under top candidate Olaf Scholz achieved the absolute majority with 48.3% of the votes. The previously ruling parties, the CDU and the Greens , have 21.9% and 11.2% respectively. The FDP with 6.6% and Die Linke with 6.4% also make it into the citizenry.

- Kunduz / Afghanistan : At least 30 people are killed and more than 40 others are injured in a suicide attack in a government building.
- Tripoli / Libya : In response to the ongoing protests , the government under Muammar al-Gaddafi has parts of the capital bombed from the air. Over 560 people are said to have been killed since the unrest began.
