Origin and meaning in the German-speaking area
The name Henning is a Low German short form of the first name Johannes and at the same time a subsidiary form of the first name Heinrich . The name was particularly popular around 1200–1500 in the northern German regions of Mecklenburg, Hanover, Hamburg, Holstein and Pomerania. To this day it is more common in northern Germany than in other regions.
