India competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics in the British capital, London, with 81 Indian Olympic Association nominated athletes - 23 women and 58 men - in 13 sports. Since it first took part in 1900 , it was the 23rd participation by an Indian team in the Summer Olympics .

The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the wrestler Sushil Kumar . At the closing ceremony , the flag of India was carried by the boxer Mary Kom .

Medals

With two won silver and four bronze, the Indian team finished 57th in the medals table . In terms of the number of medals won, the 2012 London Games were by far the most successful for the Indian Olympians.
