Lain is a French municipality with 182 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Yonne in the region Bourgogne Franche-Comté (2015: Burgundy ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Auxerre and the canton of Vincelles (until 2015 canton of Courson-les-Carrières ).

Lain is in the south of the Puisaye countryside , about 27 kilometers southwest of Auxerre . Lain is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Fontenoy in the north and north-west, Levis in the north, Sementron in the north and east, Sougères-en-Puisaye in the south, Thury in the south and south-west and Saints-en-Puisaye in the west.
