history
Large stone graves such as the large dolmen of Damerow or the large stone graves of Pustow between the Schwinge and today's district of Sassen bear witness to the early settlement of the area between Peene and Greifswald .
Pustow
The old manor house was built as a half-timbered building in 1724 and then replaced in 1865 by a new one in neo-Gothic Tudor style made of yellow clinker bricks . The estate was owned mostly by middle-class families from Greifswald, who were often ennobled as "nouveau riche", most recently the von Scheele (until 1780) and von Braun (1780 to 1928) families. There is a baroque chapel in the park, and the park was originally laid out in baroque forms.
During the GDR era, the VEB Kühlautomat operated a company holiday camp in the district.
On July 1, 1950, Pustow was incorporated into Sassen.
Sassen
The village of Sassen was founded in the 14th century, and the village's stone church also dates from this time .
Trantow
The village of Trantow appears for the first time in a document as Trintowe in 1267 , the village church was built around 1400. During the Thirty Years' War the whole area was depopulated by looting, plague and famine. The desolate village places were only gradually repopulated. The domain established by the Pomeranian duchess Sophia Hedwig between 1616 and 1618 was leased in 1804 by Ludwig Arndt , the father of Ernst Moritz Arndt . A memorial stone in Trantow reminds of the poet's stay. Two waves of resettlement took place in the middle of the 19th century and in the 1930s in the area around Sassen and Trantow. Trantow is one of the first goods settlements in Western Pomerania.
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipalities Mühlenkamp and Zarrentin were incorporated.
The Peenewiesen von Trantow were used for peat extraction until 1961. Until then, peat was mainly used for heating by local residents. Today the meadows are mainly in the nature reserve area.
Vierow
Many structures from these settlements can still be seen today; For example, the entire estate ensemble in the Vierow district has been completely preserved.
politics
- Community representation
Since the local elections on May 25, 2014 , the municipal council has consisted of four representatives from the CDU and two representatives each from the Sassen voter community and the Trantow cultural association. Then there is the mayor Detlef Behm, who belongs to the Sassen voter community.
Coat of arms, flag, official seal
The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag . The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the region of Western Pomerania . It shows an upright griffin with a raised tail and the inscription "GEMEINDE SASSEN-TRANTOW * LANDKREIS VORPOMMERN-GREIFSWALD".
