Stephanskirche

Stephanskirche or Church of St. Stefen , Heiliger-Stphanus-Kirche , especially Stephanus-Märtyrer-Kirche , etc. Ä. is a name of various churches , chapels , and monastery churches, which are placed under the patronage of the holy deacon of the early Jerusalem community Stephanus (around 1–36 / 40) or are named after him.

Feast day is Boxing Day ( December 26 Cath., Prot., Jan. 9 orth., Dec. 27 serb.-orth.). Special patronage are:

  • Finding the bones ( August 3rd , Catholic Memorial Day)
  • Transfer of the bones (Translatio Stephani, May 7th , Catholic day of remembrance)

The main churches are the Jerusalem Stephanskirche (discovery of the relics 415) and Santo Stefano Rotondo in Rome (Catholic titular church)
