Location of the municipality of Lürschau in the Schleswig-Flensburg district | ||
Lürschau ( Danish : Lyrskov) is a municipality in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein .
Lürschau is located on the 0.8 km² Arenholz lake in a heather and moor landscape. Arenholz (Danish: Arnholt ), Hermannsort, Ruhekrug ( Hvilkro ) and Wilhelmslust are part of the municipality.
history
Lürschau is located on Ochsenweg , which in places in the municipality is still almost in its original state. The battle on the Lürschauer Heide took place here on September 28, 1043 , during which - according to the chronicler Adam von Bremen - 15,000 Wends were slain. The winner of the battle was King Magnus of Norway , who had previously been on a foray with his fleet on the Wenden coast. The Wenden prince Ratibor was killed in the battle . His eight sons raised an army that moved to Jutland via the ox path and there, in turn, made booty in Magnus' domain.
Magnus then landed in Haithabu and pulled about ten kilometers towards the loot-laden Wends on the Ochsenweg. He attacked her on the Lürschauer Heide and defeated her. Allegedly "the watercourses were so filled with corpses that the water stagnated and the Christians could walk through it with dry feet" (according to Hinrich Ewald Hoff in his Schleswig-Holstein home history from 1925). Obviously this is the point where the stream from Reethsee flows into Arenholzer See. Coming from the north, you first had to cross the stream and then climb the steep, southern bank, several meters high. This steep south bank was in the further course of the ox path far and wide the best strategic point to effectively prevent even a large superior force from advancing with a relatively small army, as the outcome of the battle proved.
The course of the Ochsenweg was only changed at this point in 1955, when the village road through Lürschau from Schuby to Wilhelmslust was paved and on the occasion of which it was straightened over a lakefront that had meanwhile been filled in. The expressway opened in 1967 (then B 76 or E 3, today Landesstraße 317) from Schleswig to Flensburg finally ensured that nothing was left of the old route at this point.
The former moated castle "Alt-Gottorp" (also Alt-Gottorf), which belonged to the respective Schleswig bishop, was located in the municipal area near Gut Falkenberg . After its destruction in 1161, it was replaced by the castle "Gottorf I", which is closer to the city of Schleswig. The latter was expanded into today 's Gottorf Castle over the centuries .
