Brunner is a German family name . The name is mainly spread south of the Main line.

Origin and meaning

The name Brunner is derived from the Middle High German brunne , which means 'source, well'; it then referred to someone who lived near a well ( residence name ). Furthermore, as a name of origin, it could indicate that the name bearer came from a similarly named place, such as Brunn , Brunnen or Brünn . Brunner was rarely used as a professional name for a well digger or a manufacturer of breastplates .
