history

St. Nicholas Church

Strobnitz was created on the old Beheimsteig traffic route , which led from Weitra to Teindles . It was given as a fiefdom in 1185 by the Bohemian Duke Friedrich dem Hadmar von Kuenring . In 1257 half of Strobnitz came to her second husband Wok von Rosenberg as a dowry from Hedwig von Schaunberg , widow of Heinrich von Kuenring . The other half belonged then to Albert von Payreschau, who called himself "von Strobnitz". On June 29, 1286 gave Henry I of Rosenberg and Albert of Payreschau with in Hohenfurt issued certificate the Church of Strobnitz the monastery Hohenfurth . For the year 1302, Strobnitz is a market town with a fair, which took place on the feast of Ascension Day.

In 1359 the whole of Strobnitz became the property of the Rosenbergs . They pledged Strobnitz from 1476–1486 to Ulrich von Grafeneck . Its enemy Rubik von Hlavatec burned down Strobnitz together with the church in 1486. In 1607, Emperor Rudolf II confirmed the annual market. After the death of the last Rosenberger, Peter Wok , Strobnitz passed to the Schwanbergs , who were expropriated by Emperor Ferdinand II because of their participation in the Bohemian class uprising after the Battle of the White Mountain . He subsequently gave Strobnitz to his general Carl Graf Bucquoy . After his death in 1621, his widow Maria Magdalena exempted Markt Strobnitz, which was impoverished due to the Thirty Years' War , from all taxes. In 1848 Emperor Ferdinand I confirmed the previous privileges and granted two more markets.

After the abolition of patrimonial Strobnitz became an independent municipality in 1849. Of economic importance were two mills and, from 1888, a machine factory and a brewery that was in operation until 1895. From the second half of the 19th century, the summer resort developed . In 1890 Strobnitz had 951 inhabitants. In the school year 1892/93 445 pupils were taught in the Strobnitzer School.

After the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918, Strobnitz belonged to the Kaplitz district. In 1923 it was given the official Czech place name Horní Stropnice . In 1930 there were 907 inhabitants. After the Munich Agreement , Strobnitz was added to the German Reich in 1938 and belonged to the Kaplitz district in the Reichsgau Oberdonau until 1945 . After the Second World War, Horní Stropnice came back to re-established Czechoslovakia; 1945/1946 took place the expulsion of the German population.
