Golden Globe Awards 2021
The 78th ceremony of the Golden Globe Awards ( english 78th Golden Globe Awards ) to the Beverly Hilton Hotel in the February 28, 2021 Beverly Hills take place. Originally scheduled for the beginning of January every year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) postponed the date of its award ceremony by almost two months after the 93rd Academy Awards had been postponed to the end of April 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic . The nominations were announced on February 3, 2021.
In the run-up to most nominations, the biography Mank by David Fincher and the fourth season of the television series The Crown received six nominations each.

background
At the annual awards ceremony, the members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) recognize what they consider to be the best American and foreign film and television productions and artists of the previous year, who are honored at a gala dinner. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the associated lockdown regulations and postponed film premieres, the HPFA began to revise its rules for the submission of theatrical films as early as May 2020. At the end of July 2020, the calendar year regulation for English and foreign language film productions no longer applies. These must now have been published from January 1, 2020 to February 28, 2021 in order to qualify for the Golden Globe Awards 2021.
In June 2020, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) decided to postpone the Academy Awards in 2021 it was hosting by two months to April 25, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A week later, the HFPA followed suit and postponed the Golden Globe award for the same period. The 78th Golden Globe Awards will take place on February 28, 2021. This date was originally planned for the Oscars. Due to the postponement of the two award ceremonies, the winners of the Golden Globe Awards will be chosen before the final vote on the Oscar-nominated films and artists (March 5-10, 2021). The decisions of the HFPA could thus also influence the AMPAS members who are entitled to vote.
In the run-up to criticism in December 2020, Minari was not included in the best drama category . Because the dialogues are mostly in Korean , the US production should only be included in the Best Foreign Language Film category , while it can still be nominated in other categories such as Actor, Director or Screenplay. The HFPA dealt in a similar way last year with the later award-winning films Parasite by Bong Joon-ho and The Farewell by Lulu Wang . Artists of Asian origin such as Wang, Daniel Dae Kim , Simu Liu or Andrew Phung criticized this fact on their social media channels . Phung accused the HFPA of racism .
