The European route 23 (short form: E 23 ) leads from Metz in France to Lausanne in Switzerland . The route leads in a north-south direction from Metz, crosses Nancy and Epinal via Besançon to the Swiss border . From there, the route is taken on the Swiss A9 to the motorway triangle with the A1 to Lausanne.

In France, the E 23 is the same route as sections of the Autoroute A31 , the Autoroute A33 , the Autoroute A330 and the Route nationale 57 .
